In 1992, former Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Dr. Goh Keng Swee, was fascinated by the scenery and came up with the idea of a Singaporean company investing in a golf course in Kunming, Yunnan.
In 1998, Keppel Land, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation, Singapore's flagship multinational corporation, and Kunming Municipal Government jointly established the Spring City Lakeside Resort.
